WATER-JEL was the first company to introduce the water-based gel technology that revolutionized emergency first aid for burns 25 years ago. Today, their products range from everyday first aid products and Burn Dressings to industry-specific Burn Kits, Burn Stations and Fire Blankets, and are used widely in the petrochemicals industry.
Burns from welding sparks, torches and steam can be immediately treated with Water-Jel Burn Dressings to cool the burn, relieve pain and prevent further tissue damage. Chemical burns, however, require a different protocol.
The first principle in chemical burns is to remove the offending agent, in most instances, with copious and continued irrigation with water or saline. Generally, no attempt should be made to neutralize the chemical agent since that will waste precious time. The clothing must be removed completely and quickly in a chemical burn, as clothing serves as a reservoir for the offending agent. Also check the chemical's Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS). Once the chemical agent has been flushed thoroughly, Water-Jel should be used to provide pain relief and protection.
